The parents of a six-month-old baby who suffered a gunshot wound that went untreated have been arrested in Edmonson County.

The Edmonson County Sheriff’s Office and Child Protective Services responded to a child endangerment report on Thursday, according to a report by WNKY.com, where the parents of a seven-year-old and six-month-old told officials the family was a victim of a shooting while they were in a vehicle on August 19. The incident was not reported to police.

Upon inspection of the vehicle, deputies found eight bullet holes.

The six-month-old was struck by a bullet in the leg. The injury, which when law enforcement arrived at the family’s home had gone untreated for 10 days, had become an open wound.

Police arrested the parents, 34-year-old Hennessy Richardson and 33-year-old Candice Patterson, both of Cub Run, and charged each with first-degree criminal abuse (victim under the age of 12) and first-degree wanton endangerment. Hennessy was also served with outstanding warrants.

The suspects were lodged in the Hart County Jail. Patterson is being held on a $10,000 cash bond while Hennessy was given a $25,000 cash bond.
