Several law enforcement agencies were involved in a multi-county pursuit where the suspect changed vehicles and “supposedly” ingested “an unknown amount of heroin,” according to Kentucky State Police.

Kentucky State Police said troopers were dispatched to a pursuit involving a stolen Hyundai Elantra being chased by the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office on westbound Bluegrass Parkway.

As the chase entered I-65 north at Elizabethtown, KSP was requested to take over the pursuit from Nelson County deputies.

At the 102-mile marker of the interstate, the suspect exited I-65 and traveled north on Joe Prather Highway (Hwy 313), toward Radcliff. The pursuit ended on Patriot Lane (a dead-end road that runs off Joe Prather Highway), where the suspect exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

“As troopers set up a perimeter, they observed the male suspect now operating a semi-tractor trailer, and another pursuit ensued,” Kentucky State Police said.

The renewed pursuit entered I-65 north again before troopers deployed stop sticks near the 117-mile marker. At that time, the semi exited the interstate and entered a parking lot before turning onto East Blue Lick Road, near the Bullitt/Jefferson county line.

After a brief period traveling on East Blue Lick, the semi left the roadway and overturned in a wooded area. The suspect, who has not been identified by police, was taken into custody without further incident.

The suspect was transported to University of Louisville Hospital “after supposedly ingesting an unknown amount of a substance believed to be heroin,” according to state police.

When the suspect is released, he will be charged with fleeing or evading police, receiving stolen property theft by unlawful taking (over $10,000) and various other felony charges. He’ll be lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center.

Besides the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office and Kentucky State Police, participating in the pursuit and/or arrest were the Bullitt and Hardin County Sheriff’s Offices, and the Elizabethtown, Hillview and Shepherdsville Police Departments.
