The ninth annual Ducking Hunger Regatta shattered the previous record-high for money raised for the Grayson County Alliance (GCA) Food Pantry.

The event, held Monday evening at the Leitchfield Aquatic Center and broadcast live by K105 Digital Productions, raised a record $17,599 in donations for the Food Pantry, GCA Executive Director Debbie Childress excitedly announced to the crowd.

That represents 140,000 meals to Grayson County families struggling with food insecurity.

“And that’s because our community cares; our community is compassionate and cares about their friends and neighbors in need,” Childress exclaimed.

The winner of this year’s Ducking Hunger Regatta race was Cavaline Votaw, who walked away with a $1,000 cash prize.

This marks the second straight year the key GCA fundraiser recorded all-time highs, as last year’s Ducking Hunger Regatta raised a then-record $13,200 and was also the first time that all 2,000 ducks were purchased by the public.

Over the last three years, the Ducking Hunger Regatta has raised nearly $40,000 for the Food Pantry.

GCA serves over 700 Grayson County families per month, while also providing many other services including tax and backpack programs, senior vouchers and various educational classes.

GCA is located at 2203 Brandenburg Road in Leitchfield. The phone number is 270-259-4000.
