A man has been shot in a hunting accident in Breckinridge County.

According to Kentucky Fish & Wildlife Public Information Officer Bronson Abrams, the incident happened on Sunday, the opening day of dove season, on private property in Breckinridge County.

Abrams said multiple people were hunting on the property when the victim shot a dove. As he was retrieving the bird in a cornfield, another hunter shot at a low flying bird that had flown over the hunter retrieving the dove. As a result, the hunter retrieving the dove was peppered with birdshot.

The victim was transported to Breckinridge Memorial Hospital before being airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital. Abrams said he was released from medical care Sunday night.
