A search is underway for a man presumed drowned in Barren River Lake.

According to Glasgow-Barren County Emergency Management (GBCEM), first responder from multiple agencies were dispatched to the Gilligan’s Island area of the lake on Sunday evening on a possible drowning after a male “in the water … did not resurface.”

When the South Barren Volunteer Fire Department arrived at the lake, they made contact with friends of the missing man, Mike Aurland, and “got details of (his) last known location.”

“Teams searched the area for hours and a decision at dark was made to cease operations due to low light visibility and for the safety of all involved,” GBCEM said in a social media post.

The search will resume Monday morning, and officials ask that boaters and members of the public stay clear of the Gilligan’s Island area of the lake.

Agencies participating in the search include Kentucky Fish & Wildlife, Army Corps of Engineers, Barren County Rescue Squad, Austin Tracy Volunteer Fire Department, Allen County Rescue Squad, Barren & Allen County Sheriff’s Offices, Kentucky State Police, Hart County Rescue Squad, and emergency management personnel from Barren, Hart and Allen counties.
