The body of a man who drowned at Barren River Lake has been found.

The body of Mike Aurland, of Glasgow, was discovered at approximately 9:40 Monday morning by divers from the Barren County Rescue Squad, according to Glasgow/Barren County Emergency Management (GBCEM).

The body was scheduled to be transported to the state Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

As K105 previously reported, first responders from multiple agencies were initially dispatched to the Gilligan’s Island area of the lake on Sunday evening on a possible drowning after Aurland swam a great distance before going under the water and failing to resurface.

When the South Barren Volunteer Fire Department arrived at the lake, they made contact with Aurland’s friends and “got details of (his) last known location.” Multiple crews then searched the lake on Sunday until dark and resumed the search Monday morning.

Agencies participating in the search include Kentucky Fish & Wildlife, Army Corps of Engineers, Barren County Rescue Squad, Austin Tracy Volunteer Fire Department, Allen County Rescue Squad, Barren & Allen County Sheriff’s Offices, Kentucky State Police, Hart County Rescue Squad, and emergency management personnel from Barren, Hart and Allen counties.

The death investigation is being led by Kentucky Fish & Wildlife as well as the Barren County Coroner’s Office.
