A Grayson County teenager was airlifted after being blinded by the sun and pulling into the path of a large box truck.

The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Falls of Rough and Leitchfield Fire Departments, EMS, and GC Emergency Management responded to the crash Thursday morning at approximately 7:10 at the intersection of Falls of Rough Road (Hwy 79) and Owensboro Road (Hwy 54) at Short Creek.

Upon arriving at the scene, first responders found an 18-year-old female trapped in a Honda passenger car, as the teen was enveloped by the vehicle.

Firefighters extricated the female from the car before she was transported by EMS to Rough River State Park Airport where she was airlifted to a Louisville hospital with serious injuries.

The teenager was hurt when she turned from Falls of Rough Road onto Owensboro Road and was briefly blinded by the sun, resulting in her pulling into the path of a triple-axle box truck, carrying about 2,500 pounds, according to first responders.

The box truck t-boned the Honda on the driver’s side, propelling both vehicles off the road.

The 32-year-old driver of the Wurth truck was transported by EMS to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center with a lower leg injury.
