The man responsible for a triple-shooting in Elizabethtown on Monday morning has died.

Christopher Elder, 46, “the suspect involved in the tragic triple shooting that occurred yesterday, has died as a result of the self inflicted (sic) gunshot wound he sustained during yesterday’s standoff,” according to the Elizabethtown Police Department.

Elder died Monday night at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

Elder shot and killed his girlfriend, 37-year-old Erica Riley, of Elizabethtown, and her mother, 71-year-old Janet Riley, of Hardinsburg, at an overflow parking lot for the Hardin County Justice Center in the 100 block of East Dixie Avenue. An unidentified male was also shot. His current condition has not been released.

The suspect shot the three victims just before a court hearing regarding an emergency protective order taken out on Elder by Erica Riley.

Elder shot himself, ending an hour-long standoff in rural Christian County, about 10 miles north of Hopkinsville.
