Manhunt underway in Grayson, surrounding counties for Elizabethtown shooting suspect, Grayson Co. Schools issues statement

There’s a manhunt underway in Grayson and surrounding counties for a man accused of committing a multi-victim shooting in Elizabethtown.

The shooting occurred sometime Monday morning before 8:15 in the parking lot of the Hardin County Justice Center, according to the Elizabethtown Police Department. It resulted in schools and nearby offices being placed on lockdown, according to a source.

Three people were shot, police said.

At 8:17 a.m., local law enforcement was asked by Central Dispatch to be on the lookout for a Hyundai Elantra (but has since possibly switched vehicles to a red Toyota Camry) being driven by the suspect after the suspect’s vehicle was spotted driving west, toward Grayson County, on the parkway within the previous half-hour.

Police from multiple law enforcement agencies have flooded into Grayson and Breckinridge counties, as well as locales west of Grayson County, in search of the suspect, who is thought to be armed.

UPDATE (10:05 a.m.) — The Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Office pursued the suspect into Christian County on Hwy 189. The chase has left Hwy 189, as the suspect turned on to Judges Chapel Road, a roughly half-mile long dead end road about 10 miles north of Hopkinsville.

Grayson County Schools issued the following message to parents and guardians at 9:19 a.m.:

Families, you may have heard about the incident in Elizabethtown this morning. While this does not directly affect our school communities, to ease your minds and keep you informed, we have put additional safety precautions in place and will be keeping everyone inside until more is known and/or there is an ‘all clear’ on the situation.

At 9:18, Grayson County Schools issued the following statement:

Families, after collaborating with our local law enforcement the threat is is no longer in our area and has been deemed safe to resume to normal activities and class changes.
