CASA of the Heartland, based in Elizabethtown, is expanding to Grayson County.

“We have some exciting news! CASA of the Heartland will now serve children in a 5 county (sic) area, including Grayson, Breckinridge, and Meade counties,” the organization announced.

Tri-County CASA, which previously served Grayson County, closed earlier this year.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of the Heartland recruits, trains and supports community volunteers who advocate on behalf of abused, neglected and dependent children under the protection of the family court system. CASA is often appointed to the most severe or worrisome cases of abuse and/or neglect.

“CASA volunteers ensure that the children they serve receive proper advocacy, guidance, and support while navigating the complexities of the legal and social service systems,” the organization said. “CASA volunteers advocate for their children on many levels to ensure they receive therapeutic, educational, and personal attention needed to recover from the trauma they have endured. A CASA volunteer is often the eyes, ears and voice for a child while within the system. By meeting these needs, children increase their chances to grow into healthy, thriving adults.

“With this expansion, more children in need will have a CASA by their side, but we will also need even more volunteers to help.”
