A Kentucky corrections officer has been arrested after allegedly smuggling nearly 25 ounces of liquid methamphetamine into a medium-security Boyle County prison.

Kentucky State Police began its investigation on Friday after receiving a request from officials at Northpoint Training Center, a medium-security prison in Burgin, regarding a corrections officer “suspected of bringing an illegal liquid substance, believed to be methamphetamine, into the facility,” state police said.

The investigation showed that 26-year-old Chad L. Cairo, of Danville, entered the facility with approximately 23.9 ounces of a liquid substance (methamphetamine), in a clear water bottle, in exchange for money.

Cairo was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and first-degree promoting contraband and lodged in the Boyle County Detention Center on a $5,000 cash bond.

Cairo had been employed at Northpoint for just over a year, state police said.

The investigation is ongoing by Trooper Mariano Cordova.
