Former head boys basketball coach at Carroll Co. HS & Franklin Co. HS jailed on multiple child sex charges

A former head basketball coach at Carroll County High School and Franklin County High School has been arrested on multiple child sex charges.

Jonathan S. Moore, 40, of Frankfort, was arrested on Wednesday by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office on an indictment warrant charging him with first-degree unlawful transaction with a minor (illegal sex act, victim younger than 18), use of a minor in a sexual performance (victim younger than 18), procuring or promoting the use of a minor by electronic means, and first-degree sexual abuse. All the charges are class C felonies except for the sex abuse charge which is a class D felony.

Moore was lodged in the Franklin County Regional Jail on a $250,000 cash bond.

He was the head boys basketball coach at Franklin County during the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons, according to the Kentucky High School Athletic Association website. He resigned the position in the summer of 2023. Prior to being named Franklin County’s head coach, Moore was head coach at Carroll County for two years.

Moore also served as an assistant coach at Franklin County, Dunbar High School in Lexington and George Rogers Clark High School in Winchester.
