A man has been charged with his third DUI after a multi-agency police pursuit ended in Clarkson.

The Elizabethtown Police Department initiated the pursuit on a possible DUI driver and was soon joined by Kentucky State Police as the chase traveled west on Elizabethtown Road (Hwy 62) through White Mills and Summit at speeds reaching 70 miles per hour. The vehicle also intermittently entered the opposite lane of travel.

At approximately 12:45 a.m. Wednesday, Grayson County Central Dispatch alerted local law enforcement of the pursuit, with Grayson County Deputy Hunter Miller responding to the area. Leitchfield police responded with a cruiser positioned at the intersection of Elizabethtown Road and the William Thomason Byway in case the chase continued into Leitchfield.

As the pursuit wound through Big Clifty and into Clarkson, state police placed spike strips on the roadway inside the Clarkson city limits. Soon after running over the strips, the male suspect, driving a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu, pulled into a business parking lot in the 700 block of West Main Street (Hwy 62) and voluntarily exited the vehicle.

The suspect, 29-year-old Cyrus A. Owens, of Radcliff, was taken into custody at approximately 1:00 a.m. without further incident.

In addition to his third DUI, Owens was charged with fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), reckless driving, driving on a DUI suspended license, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center.
