The Leitchfield Fire Department is getting a new search & rescue boat.

At Monday night’s Leitchfield City Council meeting, Leitchfield Fire Chief Tim Duvall said one of the department’s three search & rescue boats has reached its “shelf life” of seven years. Duvall said the boat manufacturer only guarantees the boat for “three or four years … so it’s seen its better days.”

The inflatable boat, manufactured by Inmar, “no longer holds air,” Duvall added.

Search & rescue boats manufactured by Inmar, since the current inflatable was purchased, have “been upgraded quite a bit …,” according to Duvall.

The other two boats the department utilizes are also nearly seven-years-old.

A new Inmar inflatable search & rescue boat costs $5,135, plus $1,071 to switch the equipment from the old boat to the new boat, for a total of $6,206.

Duvall said the department could pay half of the cost of the boat with county dues, as the “boats are pretty much used out in the county.”

The council unanimously approved the request and will split the cost of the boat plus the equipment switchover fee with LFD.

Executive Session

The council entered into a 23-minute Executive Session to discuss pending litigation.

Upon emerging from the private session, City Attorney Earlene Wilson said she updated the council on “pending litigation involving the city,” and that no action was needed.
