Man drowns after tripping, falling off boat at Lake Cumberland

A man has drowned at Lake Cumberland after tripping over a cooler and falling off a boat as he was putting on a life jacket.

The drowning occurred Sunday afternoon when 53-year-old Sonny Ehrsam, of Ferguson, tripped over a cooler as he was putting on a life jacket in the South Fork area of Cumberland River on Lake Cumberland, Keith Price with Somerset-Pulaski County Search & Rescue told WYMT.com. Ehrsam then fell over the front of the boat and failed to resurface.

His body was located by sonar and recovered Monday around noon in over 100 feet of water.

In addition to Somerset-Pulaski County Search & Rescue, Kentucky Fish & Wildlife, the Burnside Police Department, Russell County Search & Rescue, Lake Cumberland Corps of Engineers, Christrian Aid Ministry, and the Burnside, Bronston and Tateville Fire Departments responded to the scene.
