A 10-year-old female moped passenger has died after being struck on I-75.

Kentucky State Police and the Corbin Police Department responded to the crash Sunday night at approximately 11:20 at the 26-mile marker of northbound I-75 in Whitley County.

Police said the preliminary investigation revealed that a 2011 Kia Sportage, being driven north by 43-year-old Michael J. Stout, of Indiana, struck a northbound RogueStar moped, being driven by 31-year-old Darius L. Wade, of Lexington, and containing a 10-year-old passenger.

Wade and the juvenile were transported Baptist Regional Hospital in Corbin before being airlifted to University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Police said the 10-year-old girl was later pronounced deceased by the Fayette Co. Coroner’s Office.

Alcohol was likely a contributing factor in the accident, state police said.

Trooper Arron Jones is leading the ongoing investigation.
