Good Samaritan struck, killed in Hopkins Co. after helping trucker change tire

A Good Samaritan who helped a truck driver change a tire was struck and killed on the Pennyrile Parkway.

The incident happened on Monday afternoon at approximately 3:40 near the 29-mile marker of northbound Pennyrile Parkway near the Hopkins/Christian County line.

According to media reports, 59-year-old Dewey Huff Jr., of Clarksville, Tennessee, assisted a truck driver change a tire in the emergency lane. After changing the tire, Huff was speaking with the trucker while standing in the right lane of travel when a 2023 Subaru Outback towing a camper struck and killed Huff.

The investigation is ongoing and being led by the Hopkins Co. Sheriff’s Office.
