A man has been charged with killing his girlfriend and their unborn child.

Kentucky State Police responded Monday afternoon at approximately 1:00 to Redwine Road in Morgan County just north of West Liberty after 49-year-old Jeremy E. Schraufnagel walked into the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office and told the sheriff he had killed his pregnant girlfriend by “cutting her throat,” according to a report by the Herald-Leader (pay wall).

Upon first responders arriving at the scene, they found Dustin deceased.

The investigation showed Schraufnagel and Dustin, both of West Liberty, initially were in a verbal altercation after the victim allegedly told the suspect that she was moving to Ohio “with an old boyfriend and he would not be able to see his child.”

Dustin’s unborn child was due in December.

The Herad-Leader, which obtained the arrest citation, said the citation stated that Schraufnagel did not remember the incident clearly but that he did remembered “standing over her, with a knife and there was a pool of blood.”

He was arrested and charged with murder and first-degree fetal homicide.

The murder investigation remains ongoing and is being led by Kentucky State Police.

According to the Kentucky Department of Corrections (KDC), Schraufnagel has an “out-of-state” conviction from a crime that was committed on February 15, 1994. He is on probation until July 2028. The KDC says his probation began in February 2022.
