2 men perish in Falls of Rough boat crash, 1 person airlifted

Two people have been killed in a boat crash in Falls of Rough.

The incident occurred Sunday morning at approximately 12:30 when a bass boat, containing two Grayson County men, crashed into a pontoon boat containing several people on Rough River Lake in the Cave Creek area of the park.

The pontoon boat, according to a source familiar with the investigation, did not have its lights on at the time of the crash.

The two men in the bass boat were uninjured.

Killed in the accident were two males. One of the men was recovered Sunday morning just after the accident, while the other male was located by divers Sunday afternoon. Additionally, a female victim was airlifted from the Falls of Rough Airport and another female was transported by EMS to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center, according to multiple law enforcement sources.

A third female requested EMS at approximately 3:10 a.m. Sunday after previously refusing transport.

The identities of the men who perished have not been released.

Multiple first-responders were on-scene for several hours at the Cave Creek Boat Ramp, including the Falls of Rough Fire Department, Leitchfield Fire Department, Kentucky Fish & Wildlife officers, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Grayson County Coroner’s Office, a Louisville Metro Police Department dive team, and Army Corps of Engineers, along with search and rescue teams from Barren and Hart counties, Grayson County Emergency Management, and emergency management personnel from multiple other counties.

The American Red Cross arrived on the scene Sunday afternoon and provided first responders with food and drink.

Kentucky Fish & Wildlife is leading the investigation.
