A teenager with a previous DUI conviction has crashed into the back of an ambulance on a run and fled the scene.

James Franklin, 18, of Providence, struck the rear of an ambulance with its lights and siren activated Wednesday morning at approximately 10:00, according to multiple media reports.

Franklin’s SUV was found in a nearby parking lot.

The suspect called his grandmother and told her what happened. She then called the Madisonville Police Department.

Franklin, who told police he fled because he was driving on a DUI suspended license, was arrested and charged with failure to give right-of-way to an emergency vehicle, driving on a DUI suspended license and failure to report an accident.

He was lodged in the Hopkins County Detention Center but is no longer listed as an inmate.
