Jamey Lee Smith of Heflin, Alabama, passed in his sleep on July 21, at 62 years old.

He is survived by the love of his life of 28 years, Meri Michal Smith; and his parents, Roy and Syble Smith.  He leaves behind five children: Nicole Smith, Jordan Woosley, Sarah Bruce (Kevin), Shannon Mattingly, and Jennifer Norberg (David). His 7 grand babies, who he was endless proud of: Tyler and Dakota, J.J and Hunter, Carson and Averi (Nathaniel Wilkerson), and Lucas. Jamey’s love extended to Levi VanMeter, Ethan Woosley, Devan Williams, Samantha Woosley, and Mikala Smith.

Jamey was a man of faith. He loved going to church and hearing the gospel. Like his savior, he was a carpenter. Beyond the church, he enjoyed spending his time in nature. Bow hunting was a favorite past time of his, and anyone who visited he would gladly show his collection of bows and crossbows to. He would loan a kayak to anyone who asked to share in his love of hitting the rapids. During the summer, he enjoyed hitting the open road on his motorcycle, and giving rides to children of all ages.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, (July 26, 2024) at the New Freedom Baptist Church in Leitchfield. Bro. Mickey Coates will be officiating. Burial will be in the New Freedom Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday.
