A teenager has been rescued after becoming lost inside a cave in Hart County.
Hart County Search & Rescue, the Linwood Fire Department, Kentucky State Police, and local cavers responded Sunday afternoon at approximately 5:35 to the report of a 19-year-old male entering a cave at 3:00 p.m. and not being seen again.
“We also notified the TRACER team, which is a specialized cave/rope rescue team, and the National Cave Rescue Commission for assistance,” according to Hart County Search & Rescue.
Two search teams entered the cave and conducted a search and located the teenager “a few hours later.” He was uninjured and reunited with his family.
Hart County Search & Rescue issued the following statement to those interested in spelunking:
“Our advice first and foremost is do not enter a cave without experienced cavers however if you plan to enter a cave without experienced cavers take at least two sources of light, extra batteries, water, snacks, and the most important thing to do is leave word with friends or family of your plans so help can get to you if needed.”
