Body of teenage drowning victim recovered from Kentucky River

The body of a teenager who drowned in Kentucky River has been recovered.

Damien Chamberland, 16, was swimming with friends Tuesday afternoon at 2:45 at Fort Boonesborough State Park near the Madison/Clark County lines when he went under the water and failed to resurface, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

Crews from Madison, Laurel and Clark counties, along with local fire departments, searched for six hours on Tuesday before calling off the search due to darkness. The search was restarted Wednesday morning at 8:00, with officials locating Chamberland’s body Wednesday night at approximately 5:30.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation.
