The mother, grandmother of a man who died of a fentanyl overdose charged in his death

The mother and grandmother of a 21-year-old man who died of a fentanyl overdose have been charged in his death.

The Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force in early June responded to a residence on Williams Hill Road in Elkton and found Jordan Moorefield deceased. Further investigation by the medical examiner’s showed he died from a fentanyl overdose, according to WKDZ.com.

The investigation, conducted by the task force and Todd County Sheriff’s Office, led police to 32-year-old Whitney Harper, who admitted to supplying Moorefield with the deadly fentanyl. Harper then used the drug deal proceeds to buy Xanax from one of Moorefield’s family members.

As the investigation continued, the decedent’s mother, 41-year-old Shannon Moorefield, of Elkton, and grandmother, 62-year-old Kimberly Moorefield, of Hopkinsville, were developed as suspects in the case and have been accused of being complicit in the death.

Shannon Moorefield, according to WKDZ.com, gave her son other drugs prior to his death.

Harper was charged with second-degree manslaughter, while Kimberly Moorefield was charged with complicity to second-degree manslaughter.

Shannon Moorefield was charged with complicity to second-degree manslaughter and three counts of trafficking in a controlled substance (fentanyl, drug unspecified).

The suspects were lodged in the Todd County Detention Center. Kimberly Moorefield was given a $500,000 cash bond while Harper and Shannon Moorefield are being held on $250,000 cash bonds.
