GCHS Family, Career and Community Leaders chapter comes away big winners at national competition

Grayson County High School’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) chapter came away placing second in the nation in the Knowledge Bowl competition at the organization’s National Leadership Conference in Seattle, Washington.

The first-ever GCHS Knowledge Bowl Team of Michenna Meredith, Gabe Secora, Laslen Hatfield, Cierra Clark, and Tara Wells began competing in November 2023 to earn a berth at nationals. They placed second in the nation out of 80 teams.

Ethan Butler came in first place in the nation in the Hospitality, Tourism Challenge Test, and Tabitha Crossman earned a Silver Medal in the Nutrition and Wellness STAR Event.

FCCLA Advisor Cody Mooneyhan received the national Star Events Volunteer Award, one of only four national FCCLA Adult Award winners.

She also served as an on-site consultant for Star Events and presented an adviser workshop on integrating FCCLA projects into the Family & Consumer Science classroom.
