Boone Co. couple die in helicopter crash in Hawai’i

A couple from Boone County has died in a helicopter crash while vacationing in Hawai’i.

James Quintua, 60, and his wife, Amy Quintua, 53, both of Union, died Thursday afternoon when the helicopter they were aboard while touring Kaua’i crashed about a quarter-mile offshore along the Na Pali Coast, according to a County of Kaua’i social media post.

The helicopter was being piloted by 69-year-old Guy Croydon.

Amy Quintua was found deceased soon after the crash. Her husband and the pilot have not been found and are presumed dead.

The search, which was suspended Sunday afternoon, lasted about 60 hours and covered more than 830 miles, official said. Participating in the search were the U.S. Coast Guard, Hawaii National Guard and Hawai’i Emergency Management along with several local rescue and law enforcement agencies.

The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the crash investigation.
