A woman has been arrested in Madisonville after passing out in a car with a small child for over seven hours.

The Madisonville Police Department arrested 29-year-old Michaela E. Wells and charged her with endangering the welfare of a minor, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Wells was arrested after being found passed out in a vehicle at approximately 10:30 Saturday morning, according to a report by WFIE.com. In the car with her was her small child. During a search of the vehicle, officers found methamphetamine and marijuana.

The temperature inside the car, police said, was 98 degrees. Wells told officers she parked at about 3:00 Saturday morning. She additionally said she stopped because she was too tired to drive to her destination, which was three blocks away.

Wells was lodged in the Hopkins County Detention Center. She is no longer listed as an inmate.

The child was placed with family members.
