Leitchfield man on the run after vicious assault arrested on King Rd. by Grayson Co. Sheriff’s Office

A Leitchfield man wanted for striking another man in the back of the head with a metal pipe in the parking lot at Plastikon has been arrested.

Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Jordan Jones and Deputies Sean Fentress and Thomas Lane arrested 48-year-old Chad Matthew Dennis Wednesday night at approximately 6:40 at a residence on King Road. Deputies arrived at the home after information was developed that Dennis, a convicted felon, was at the residence. He was found hiding underneath a bed, according to police.

Dennis was wanted after an investigation by the Leitchfield Police Department showed that the assault victim was being dropped off at work when Dennis “abruptly pulled up behind the victim in a bluish-green pick up.”

According to statements and surveillance video, “Dennis hurriedly exited his pickup and rushed toward the victim from behind … (and) struck the victim in the back of the head with what witnesses described as a 2-3 foot long metal pipe,” Leitchfield PD Det. Sgt. Ian Renfrow said.

The victim was treated for injuries at Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center.

Dennis faces a second-degree assault charge, a class C felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

The suspect, according to online records, has been arrested at least 19 times since 2010 on a variety of charges in several different counties, including multiple drug trafficking counts (methamphetamine, legend drugs, manufacturing methamphetamine, tampering with physical evidence, illegal possession of a legend drug, controlled substance – endangering the welfare of a minor, promoting contraband, persistent felony offender, theft by unlawful taking, and non-payment of fines.
