A man who stole checks from residents in Grayson County has been identified by police.

Anthony O’Brian Davis, of Magnolia, North Carolina, was indicted by a Grayson County Grand Jury on July 1 on multiple forgery charges after he stole three checks, washed them and re-wrote the checks to himself for over $3,000.

He then tried to cash the three checks at “multiple different banking locations,” according to the Leitchfield Police Department. He was successful in cashing only one of the stolen checks, as two of the victims were notified by the bank resulting in the checks being declined. However, one victim’s check was successfully cashed at an out-of-county bank, police said.

“Davis was identified through witness statements, operator’s license and surveillance footage,” LPD said. The suspect, police added, does not appear to have any ties to the Leitchfield community.

Anyone with information on Davis’ whereabouts is asked to contact the Leitchfield Police Department at 270-259-3850.
