Two Caneyville men have been accused of stealing “several hundred feet of wire” from Windstream while causing over $100,000 in damages.

In January, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation into the theft and vandalism of Windstream communication wire (containing copper) in the Caneyville area, according to Sheriff Norman Chaffins.

The wire thefts caused interruption in Windstream service throughout the Caneyville area.

“The actual thefts and vandalism caused over $33,000 in damages,” Chaffins said.

The sheriff’s office, with assistance from a Windstream employee, used surveillance video and tracking devices during the inquiry. Further investigation led law enforcement to two suspects, 38-year-old Timothy P. Polston and 54-year-old Anthony G. Frank.

The investigation’s findings were recently presented to a Grayson County Grand Jury which indicted both suspects on theft by unlawful taking, first-degree criminal mischief and interfering with communications charges.

“Although Polston and Frank may not be able to be tied to the entire amount, labor hours to repair, time to restore service, and money lost due to downtime totaled over $100,000 to Windstream and its customers,” Chaffins said.

Polston was already incarcerated in the Grayson County Detention Center for violating his probation/parole. Frank remains at large.
