A suspect has been charged with manslaughter in the overdose death of a Hopkins County man.

The Madisonville-Hopkins County VICE Narcotics unit arrested 29-year-old Jawan D. Combs, of Hanson, following the fentanyl overdose death of 23-year-old Christian I. Crook, of Madisonville.

The investigation began in early June when police were dispatched to a residence on Bean Cemetery Road in Madisonville on the report of a possible fentanyl overdose. Upon completion of the autopsy, Crooks death was confirmed to be the result of fentanyl intoxication, according to a report by WFIE.com

Police, during the investigation, interviewed Combs, who admitted he sold fentanyl to Crook.

Combs was arrested and charged with second-degree manslaughter and two counts of trafficking in a controlled substance (fentanyl). He is lodged in the Hopkins County Detention Center on a $1 million cash bond.

Second-degree manslaughter and first-degree trafficking in fentanyl are class C felonies, punishable by five to 10 years in prison.
