Kentucky State Police is investigating after a man was fatally shot at a gun store in Carroll County.
The shooting occurred Saturday night at approximately 8:30 at Humphrey Double H Sale at 1496 Whites Run Road, about seven miles east of Carrollton, and resulted in the death of 50-year-old Chad A. Wainscott, of Worthville.
The preliminary investigation, according to state police, indicated that a gun store customer was “viewing a firearm for sale and manipulating it when a single round discharged striking the victim, who was also in the store.”
Wainscott was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
“The individual in physical control of the firearm at the time it discharged is cooperating with investigators, and witnesses at the scene have been interviewed,” KSP said. “At this time, based on statements and evidence collected, no foul play is suspected. No charges are pending at this time and the investigation remains ongoing by Post 5 detectives.”
