The second fatal accident in two years has claimed the life of a worker at one of Hardin County’s top employers.

The Elizabethtown Police Department and other first responders were dispatched Tuesday afternoon to Metalsa, on North Branch Road near Central Hardin High School, as a search was conducted for a worker who failed to clock out after a shift, according to The News-Enterprise.

The worker, a male who has not been identified, was found deceased about 90 minutes later in “some type of chemical holding tank,” Elizabethtown PD spokesman Chris Denham told The News-Enterprise.

The investigation is ongoing.

In a previous fatal accident at the plant, 24-year-old Lance Winemiller, of Elizabethtown, was killed  when he was struck by a forklift on June 7, 2022.

Metalsa, which employs about 1,800 workers, is an auto supplier that produces frames and other parts for Ford Expedition, Navigator and F-150 trucks.
