A Shelby County man who told police “he had a job to take both females out” has been arrested for shooting and killing his wife and mother-in-law.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday arrested 32-year-old Michael T. Hunt, of Pleasureville, and charged him with two counts of murder.

The arrest came after deputies responded to the report of shooting in the 200 block of Pleasureville Road in the Cropper community, about 12 miles north of Shelbyville, Friday night at approximately 8:40, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies located two women suffering from gunshot wounds, 33-year-old Emily Hunt and 56-year-old Heather Simmons. Hunt was Michael Hunt’s wife while Simmons was Emily Hunt’s mother.

Emily Hunt was pronounced deceased at the scene. Simmons was transported to a local hospital where she later died.

The arrest citation, according to WAVE.com, said Hunt admitted to police that he shot the women in the head and that he “had a job to take both females out.”

Michael Hunt was lodged in the Shelby County Detention Center on a $1 million cash bond.
