The body of a man who fell off a pontoon boat Friday evening has been recovered.

Multiple first responders from several agencies were dispatched Friday night at approximately 8:00 to the South Fork (aka “Big South Fork Party Cove”) area of Lake Cumberland after a man fell off a pontoon boat and failed to surface.

The Burnside Fire Department, Somerset-Pulaski County Rescue Squad, Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, Russell County Dive Team, Kentucky Fish & Wildlife personnel, Somerset Special Response Team, and a Christian Aid Ministry dive team participated in the effort to locate 72-year-old Darrell Kirby, of Liberty Township, Ohio.

The search finally ended Sunday at approximately 5:30 p.m. when Kirby’s body was found by Christian Aid Ministry, according to the Burnside Fire Department.

The body has been transported to the state Medical Examiner’s office in Frankfort for an autopsy.
