A Hart County man has been accused of severely injuring a toddler in Munfordville.

Kentucky State Police on Friday arrested 20-year-old Cody Jones, of Horse Cave, and charged him with first-degree criminal abuse (victim under the age of 12).

Jones was arrested after abusing a 14-month-old child Thursday morning on Main Street in Munfordville. The charge is a class B felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

The complaint filed against Jones by Hart County prosecutors states that he caused the child to have a sublingual frenulum tear (the tissue that connects the tongue to the bottom of the mouth), ulcerations in the posterior pharynx (open sores in the toddler’s throat), an injury to the left lower lip, perianal bruising (a collection of blood that has leaked from a busted blood vessel in the toddler’s bottom), erythematous blanching diaper rash (indicating that normal blood flow to the area does not return quickly), multiple bruises throughout the body, scabbed areas on the abdomen, and a cast on the right arm.

The suspect was lodged in the Hart County Jail on a $50,000 cash bond.
