A Grayson County teenager has been jailed after fleeing police and crashing into a vehicle before trying to hide his truck behind a residence.

The incident began Monday night at approximately 9:05 when Grayson County Deputy Caleb Owens observed a 1986 Nissan truck traveling west at 80 miles per hour around the 5000 block of Owensboro Road (Hwy 54). Owens, who was traveling east, turned around to stop the vehicle but the driver, 18-year-old Matthew Manske-Boggs, of Falls of Rough, fled, according to the arrest citation.

Owens, while pursuing Boggs, encountered a truck stopped in the middle of the roadway. The driver told Owens that “a truck passed him, running him and several others off the roadway,” the citation states.

Owens continued traveling west on Owensboro Road searching for the Nissan when he soon “drove up on a lot of smoke in the air and (the) odor of burning rubber.”

Soon after, Grayson County Dispatch received a call from a motorist who said she had been in a collision with a truck that sped off. At the same time, another 911 caller said a male subject was in her backyard “asking to leave his truck there …,” according to the citation.

Owens made his way to the female caller’s residence in the 6600 block of Owensboro Road and made contact with Manske-Boggs, who was sitting in his truck behind the residence. Owens took the suspect into custody.

Owens notes in the citation that five people were in the vehicle that Manske-Boggs struck.

He was charged with five counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), leaving the scene of an accident, and speeding 25 mph or more over the limit. Manski-Boggs was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.

Deputy Hunter Miller assisted Owens at the scene.
