An eastern Kentucky social studies teacher has been accused of having sex with a female juvenile.
Following a Kentucky State Police investigation, law enforcement arrested 50-year-old Craig Callen in Claiborne County, Tennessee, where he resides, state police said. He was charged with third-degree rape, third-degree sodomy, first-degree sexual abuse, and procuring the use of minor by electronic means.
Callen was initially held in the Claiborne County (TN) Detention Center but has since been extradited to Kentucky. He is now lodged in the Bell County Detention Center.
Callen was a teacher at Middlesboro High School but has since been terminated. WRIL.com reports that the victim was a female juvenile.
Middlesboro Independent Schools Superintendent Waylon Allen gave the following statement to WRIL.com:
“This is an ongoing investigation with law enforcement regarding personnel and we cannot comment at this time. We have turned the matter over to our legal counsel and will make a statement when we are at liberty to do so.”
