A Kentucky State Police trooper, and member of Gov. Andy Beshear’s security detail, has been indicted on theft by unlawful taking and abuse of public trust charges.

Daniel Forbis, 42, of Campbellsville, was indicted by a Franklin County Grand Jury for theft and unlawful taking of property (over $10,000, less than $1 million) and abuse of public trust, both class C felonies punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Forbis is accused of stealing ammunition owned by Kentucky State Police that was stored near the Governor’s Mansion, Franklin Co. Commonwealth’s Attorney Larry Cleveland told the Herald-Leader. The thefts are alleged to have occurred in June 2023 and February 2024.

“On the grounds of the mansion is a storage facility containing ammunition, and (Forbis) was allegedly removing ammunition and taking it for personal use and converting to his own use,” Cleveland told the Herald-Leader.

The suspect’s initial court appearance is slated for July 12.

Forbis has been a trooper since August 2017. Prior to joining KSP, Forbis served as an officer on both the Lebanon and Campbellsville Police Departments, according to Columbia Magazine.com. His law enforcement career dates back to January 2009.
