The Republican Party of Grayson County has selected its nominee to run for county coroner in a special election.
Kevin Pharis, a longtime deputy coroner in Grayson County, was chosen to run in November’s special election at the meeting of the Republican Party of Grayson County’s Executive Committee and Precinct Captains on Thursday night.
Pharis will vie to fill the final two years of former Coroner Joe Brad Hudson’s term, who retired earlier this month. Judge-Executive Kevin Henderson selected Deputy Coroner Larry Holeman to serve as interim Grayson County Coroner until the winner of the special election is sworn-in.
“It is an honor and privilege to be selected to run for Grayson County Coroner,” Pharis told K105. “I truly appreciate the confidence the Republican Executive Committee placed in me with this nomination to finish the remainder of the term.”
Pharis’ vast experience includes serving as deputy coroner under Ronald Hudson from 1985 until 2001, and again from 2018 to the present under Joe Brad Hudson and now Larry Holeman.
“I’m fortunate to have served as a deputy under three highly experienced and outstanding coroners,” Pharis said.
Pharis further noted that, if he wins the special election, Holeman and Deputy Coroner James Embry will continue to serve as deputy coroners.
In addition to his lengthy history with the Grayson Co. Coroner’s Office, Pharis has served on the Leitchfield Fire Department for over 40 years.
