An Elizabethtown man has been arrested after accidentally shooting a teenager in the head.
The Elizabethtown Police Department was dispatched Saturday night at approximately 9:30 to the shooting at Ashley Pointe Apartments in the 600 block of Stewart Street, according to The News-Enterprise.
The investigation showed that multiple people had been pointing firearms at each other when 20-year-old Joseph S. Hampton-Roberts pointed a gun at a 16-year-old and pulled the trigger, shooting the teen in the head.
The victim was airlifted to a Louisville hospital with a non-life threatening injury.
Hampton-Roberts told police he removed the clip from the gun before pulling the trigger.
“The shooting was not intentional, but again, their behavior was extremely reckless,” Elizabethtown PD spokesman Chris Denham told The News-Enterprise.
Hampton-Roberts, who had been granted a diversion in a previous case, was arrested and charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
The shooting incident will be presented to a Hardin County Grand Jury for its consideration.
