Charles Leland Welling, age 73, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Monday, (April 8, 2024) at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital in Owensboro, KY. He was born on June 10, 1950 in Morristown, TN, the son of the late Leland Murrell and Hallie Elizabeth Parker Canter.

Charles started working as a Tailor in the early 1970s until he retired from Riders Men’s & Women’s Clothing in 2011. Charles was the official tailor for the Canadian pavilion at the 1982 World’s Fair in Knoxville, TN. He also enjoyed gardening and collecting coins.

He had a deep desire to help people and was constantly doing something to help people in need. He had the privilege of serving as a ministry worker which included jail ministry at the Grayson County Detention Center and being an associate on the prayer line broadcast two nights a week on WJCR.

Charles was proud of his Sobriety and he just recently celebrated 23 years of sobriety on March 27. He was an avid supporter of Alcoholics Anonymous and led several AA meetings. He truly took pride in living his life for the lord and was active member and former song leader of WJCR House of Prayer.

He is survived by his brother, Philip Canter of Ormond Beach, FL; his sister, Gerri Powell of Cecilia, KY; and his loving fur babies, Buffy and Lucy. Several wonderful nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews also survive.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Welling; brothers, George, Robert, and Wayne Canter and one infant brother; and a fur baby, Poncho.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, (April 14, 2024) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Don Powell Jr. will be officiating. Burial will be in the WJCR House of Prayer Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. Sunday until time of services.
