At least four Kentucky schools, including Rineyville Elementary School in Hardin County, were evacuated Thursday morning after receiving threats.
Hardin County School Community Public Relations Director John Wright released two statements on the district’s Facebook page where he first announced officials were “evacuating the building after receiving a threat to the building … and taking students to a secure location, because of that threat.”
Kentucky State Police, the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office and Hardin County Emergency Management responded to the school and “are working on resolving the situation,” Wright said.
A short time later, the school district posted a second video, this one featuring Wright standing inside the school. He said law enforcement searched the school from “stem to stern, they have looked everywhere; in every nook and cranny, and everything is safe.”
He also noted that law enforcement reviewed surveillance footage “and all is well there … nothing suspicious has been seen or found or viewed.”
The students, Wright stated, were then brought back to the school from their “secure locations.”
The threat was received at approximately 10:00 Thursday morning and students were allowed back inside the building at approximately 11:30 a.m.
Other school threats on Thursday
In other school evacuations on Thursday, Glendover Elementary School in Fayette County received a bomb threat. The school was searched and no threat was found.
In Madison County, Kingston Elementary School was evacuated to a nearby church after a swatting call was made to the school.
“After a mysterious call to our office this morning, we have evacuated our building,” the school district said. “We do not believe our students or staff are in any real danger, but we are cooperating with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department while they check our building as a precaution.”
No threat was found and students were allowed to resume their day at the school.
Students and staff at Brodhead Elementary School in Rockcastle County were evacuated “to a secure location off of school grounds,” also due to a swatting call, the district said.
Kentucky State Police searched the building and found no threat.
