A man has been arrested after stealing and wrecking a school bus.

The London Police Department arrested 26-year-old John Robert-Benjamin Driscoll, of London, after he stole a school bus and drove the bus into a ditch as he rounded a curve at approximately 10:45 Tuesday night.

Upon arriving at the scene, witnesses told police they observed a young male dressed in all black crawl out of the bus and run from the scene. Police soon made contact with Driscoll and determined he was under the influence of alcohol.

“Driscoll also admitted to having been drinking Fireball Whiskey and admitted to stealing the school bus from South Laurel High School,” police said.

The suspect was arrested and charged with DUI (aggravating circumstances), theft by unlawful taking (automobile, more than $10,000, less than $1 million), first-degree criminal mischief, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, careless driving, illegal use of a school bus, and failure to wear a seat belt. He was also served with a warrant out of Indiana.

He was lodged in Laurel County Corrections.
