A young boy and adult woman were killed in a two-vehicle crossover accident in Whitley County.

Kentucky State Police said troopers responded to the crash Tuesday morning at approximately 7:35 on Bee Creek Road.

The preliminary investigation showed that a 2017 GMC Acadia, being driven south by 33-year-old Stephanie N. Smith, of Corbin, crossed the center line and struck a 2012 Lexus, being driven by 67-year-old Diana L. Alsip, of Corbin.

Authorities said a juvenile passenger in the GMC, 10-year-old Drake Southerland, of Corbin, suffered critical injuries and was transported to Baptist Health Corbin. He was scheduled to be airlifted to University of Kentucky Children’s Hospital but the flight had to be diverted to St. Joseph London Hospital.

He was later pronounced deceased at St. Joseph London Hospital by the Laurel County Coroner’s Office.

Alsip was airlifted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where she was later pronounced deceased by the Knox County Coroner’s Office. A juvenile passenger in Alsip’s vehicle was airlifted to University of Kentucky Children’s Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing and being led by Trooper Shane Bowling.
