5-year-old Princeton girl found safe, father charged with killer her mother

A Caldwell County man accused of killing his child’s mother and then fleeing with the child has been arrested.

An AMBER Alert was issued Monday morning for five-year-old Lela Black, of Princeton, after her mother, Kelly Black, was found shot to death in Princeton. The child was taken by her father, 42-year-old Byron Black, of Princeton, who has been accused of shooting Kelly Black in the back of her head.

Kentucky State Police, in a social media post, said Lela Black was “located safely.”

Byron Black was arrested by Kentucky State Police and charged with murder. He was lodged in the Caldwell County Detention Center at 2:05 Monday afternoon.

State police did not release information on where the Blacks were found.
