Sen. Steve Meredith this week was recognized for his advocacy of children in Kentucky.
Meredith, R-Leitchfield, received the distinguished “Champion for Children” Award from Kentucky Youth Advocates.
The recognition highlights Meredith’s leadership, particularly in championing Senate Bill (SB) 48 during the 2023 Regular Session. SB 48, aimed at enhancing efficiency within critical functions of the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS), focuses on streamlining organizational structures and addressing workforce issues to improve outcomes for the well-being of Kentucky’s children and families.
“I’m honored to receive the ‘Champion for Children’ Award from Kentucky Youth Advocates,” Meredith said. “SB 48 is a result of collaborative efforts, and this recognition highlights our commitment to better outcomes for Kentucky’s children. Through immense discussion with my colleagues in the Senate Families and Children Committee, I’m proud of our work in establishing a more independent Ombudsman’s Office. This award is a shared success, reinforcing our dedication to enhancing the lives of Kentucky’s youth.”
Kentucky Youth Advocates commended the passage of SB 48, acknowledging Meredith’s dedication to collaboration with CHFS, advocates, and those affected by the proposed changes. The Champion for Children Award also recognizes his role with the Senate Standing Committee on Families and Children in adopting measures for a more independent Ombudsman’s Office.
Children’s Advocacy Week, celebrating two decades of impactful advocacy, serves as a dedicated platform uniting community organizations, professionals, and young individuals to amplify the voices of Kentucky’s youth. Aligned with essential policy priorities outlined in the 2024 Blueprint for Kentucky’s Children, participants spent the week engaging with legislators, attending committee meetings, and rallying for the betterment of children across the commonwealth.
