The president and founder of the Grayson County High School Football Alumni Association (GCHSFAA) has been appointed to the Board of Directors with Military Missions in Action (MMIA).

Roger Lush, a 1980 graduate of Grayson County High School, served over two decades (1985-2005) in the U.S. Army and is currently Sr. Vice President of Business Development for Alliance Careers, a firm dedicated to assisting transitioning military members into corporate America.

MMIA is also dedicated to serving those who served and are serving their country, as the organization assists veterans with disabilities, homeless veterans, and members of the Armed Forces and their families.

Lush earned numerous awards and decorations during his two decades of service, including the Global War on Terrorism Medal; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Southwest Asia Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars; Meritorious Service Medal (four); Army Commendation Medal (five); Army Achievement Medal (six); Army Good Conduct Medal (six), Drill Sergeant Badge; Army Engineer Association’s Bronze de Fleury Medal; Deutches Sportabzeichen (German Sports Badge); and Air Assault Tab.

Lush participated in Operation Desert Shield, the U.S. military buildup to the first Gulf War, and Operation Desert Storm, which was initiated with a U.S. aerial bombing campaign against Iraq in January 1991.

Lush, who lives in Raleigh, North Carolina, with his wife, the former Denise Langley, formerly of Big Clifty, is active in the Grayson County community, as he founded GCHSFAA in 2018.

Since then, the association, along with Grayson County Schools, has collected 12,500 pounds of food and $12,300 in donations for Grayson County Alliance (GCA) through the Tackle Hunger initiative; awarded $500 scholarships to several of Grayson County’s graduating football players; and donated nearly $12,000 to the GCHS Football Boosters, the Grayson County Junior Pro Program and scholarships for graduating GCHS football players.
