Only six people filed candidacy papers to run for a seat on the Leitchfield City Council.
According to Grayson County Clerk Charlotte Willis, incumbents William “Billy” Dallas, Raymond “Tootie” Cottrell, James Clayton Miller, and Terri Haycraft filed for another two-year term. All but Haycraft, who was first elected in November 2022, have served multiple terms on the council.
Additionally, George Hack and Tim Bocock filed candidacy papers, giving the contest six candidates for the six city council seats. Hack and Bocock currently serve on the Leitchfield Planning Commission.
A city council election will be held but with only six candidates for six seats, short of an unforeseen event, the city council members are established.
“I appreciate the interest those that have filed have shown in their desire to help move our city forward,” Mayor Harold Miller told K105. “With Mr. Hack and Mr. Bocock filing, I have great confidence that they have the best interest of our community in mind. Both gentlemen have been a vital part of the Planning and Zoning Commission for some time and have made great efforts to be involved in the betterment of the city of Leitchfield. I look forward to working with each of them.”
Miller, serving his first term as mayor, also noted that the incumbent council members plus the new editions give the city a sunny forecast.
“With the existing council members who will continue to work vigorously on behalf of the city, I think we have a bright future ahead of us,” Miller stated.
Choosing not to run for another term were council members Dennis Fentress and Jeanna Carnes (Carnes received the second highest number of votes in the 2022 election behind Dallas).
During the 2022 election cycle, 12 candidates ran for city council.
