Three western Kentucky courthouses were evacuated on Thursday after each received a bomb threat.

The Muhlenberg, McLean and Webster County courthouses received the threats via an email sent to the respective circuit clerk’s offices, according to the Webster County Sheriff’s Office. The threats indicated explosive devices were placed in the buildings.

Kentucky State Police was notified in each instance and bomb-sniffing K-9s cleared the buildings.

The threats have since been deemed not credible.

The threats to the courthouses resembled email threats sent to seven state Capitols, including Kentucky, Wednesday morning. In Kentucky, the bomb threat was sent to Kentucky’s deputy secretary of state.

The threatening email said, “I placed multiple explosives inside your State Capitol. The explosives are well hidden inside and they will go off in a few hours. I will make sure you all end up dead.”

Kentucky State Police evacuated the state Capitol building and conducted a search.

No explosive devices were found at any of the seven state Capitols.

In addition to Kentucky, bomb threats were sent to state Capitols in Georgia, Mississippi, Connecticut, Michigan, Montana, and Utah.
